Mladen Kesar, Principal solicitor
Mladen practised immigration law for 10 years before setting up Kesar & Co Solicitors. In the recent years he has worked on public and private law challenges revolving around the rights of prisoners and detainees as well as a wide range of prison related issues. Mladen has a large and varied civil litigation practice and has represented several high-profile clients.

Kevin Smyth, Solicitor
Kevin specialises in immigration, asylum and nationality law and represents clients in applications to the Home Office, and in appeals before the First and Upper Tiers of the Immigration Tribunal and the Court of Appeal. He has also developed a public law practice representing clients in judicial review claims before the High Court.

Katie Bennett, Caseworker
Katie completed her LL.B (Honours) degree at the University of Sussex in 2005. She was called to the Bar in July 2007 following the successful completion of the Bar Vocational Course. Katie has experience in a wide range of immigration and prison law matters and frequently appears at the First-tier Tribunal. Katie is accredited to LSC level 2 and OISC level 3 and she is a volunteer mentor for Hope Worldwide.

Lauren completed her LL.B law degree at Sussex University in 2005 and obtained a 2.1 grade. In 2008 she was called to the Bar after successful completion of the BVC at the Inns of School Court of Law. Lauren has experience in all areas of immigration law and represents both private and publicly funded clients.

Shkar obtained his LLB (Hons) degree in Law from City University London in 2010 and joined Kesar and Co not long after completing his Masters degree, at University College London, in 2012. Shkar has now established himself as one of the senior caseworkers at the firm specialising in Prison, Public law and Criminal appeals. In this period Shkar has spent a significant amount of time as an advocate for prisoners representing them at adjudication and parole hearings. More »

Susannah Byng, Caseworker
Susannah grew up in Nigeria which is where her interest in human rights began. She has an MA in development studies, she did research for her dissertation in the Somali refugee camps of eastern Ethiopia, during which time she also evaluated the effectiveness of womens' groups in the camps for the UNHCR.

After graduating in 2008, Beth converted to law with a Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies from the University of East Anglia. She obtained a distinction in her LPC from BPP Law School in 2011 and has gained experience in a variety of areas of legal practice.

Malcolm is a qualified solicitor and has worked at Kesar and Co Solicitors for a number of years and has a great experience of personal injury claims and prison law. He works passionately to redress unfair decisions, and has obtained large settlements for clients ranging from being involved in road traffic accidents, to clients being attacked and suffering disfigurements.

Chris Ofokansi, Solicitor
Chris is an accredited duty solicitor and supervisor in our criminal defence department. He enjoys an outstanding reputation with focus on complex defence cases and has many years of experience gained in the Central London based firms. Chris owns a mobile phone which never stops ringing and he is probably the busiest man in our team. It is a mystery what Chris does in his spare time, because he does not appear to have any.

With background in education and special needs Vicky is a welcome addition to our Bromley team. Vicky's practice is complex and diverse but her main area of specialism is wills, probate and issues related to deputyship and lasting power of attorney. Her practice also includes mental health and personal injury matters. Vicky is currently waiting to be admitted as a solicitor.

Unkha graduated from the University of Essex in 2013 with a degree in Law, and is due to complete the Legal Practice Course at the University of Law in Summer 2016. Her previous legal experience includes working in immigration law, civil litigation, and prison law which she has gained from private practice and from interning in NGOs such as the Prisoners' Advice Service, Friends of the Earth, and The Redress Trust. In addition, Unkha has served as a Youth Board member of Oxfam GB and a Youth Advisor for the Department of Energy and Climate Change.

Killian graduated from the University of Sussex, with a 1st in Philosophy, before going on to undertake the GDL and the LPC. Prior to joining Kesar & Co, Killian has advised clients on Housing law and Employment law matters. Killian's primary practice area is personal injury. He represents individuals who have injury, disfigurement or loss following the negligent or intentional acts of public authorities. A number of his cases include breaches of human rights obligations. He also has an interest in public sector equality claims and has a growing practice area advising clients who have been victims of discriminatory conduct.

Georgina is currently studying the LPC at the University of Westminster after recently completing the GDL there with a commendation. Georgina originally obtained a degree in English Literature and Creative Writing and has published short stories in NYC where she resided in 2012. Georgina's interest in Public law began at Hodge Jones & Allen in 2015 where she gained experience assisting with Inquests, Action against Police, and Action against Prison claims. In her spare time Georgina enjoys travelling, writing and attending the theatre.

Daniel completed his LL.B (Honours) degree at the University of Exeter and obtained a 2:1 grade. Prior to joining Kesar & Co Daniel worked for a law firm specialising in RTA claims. During this time Daniel worked in the accounts department as a legal cashier. Subsequent to this he moved over to the litigation team where he handled a large volume of claims and would issue legal proceedings where settlement could not be agreed. Daniel's underlying passion for human rights dates back to his time at college where he ran the Amnesty Group Society.

Afia completed her LL.B from SOAS in 2013 and specialises in Immigration law. Prior to joining Kesar and Co Solicitors, Afia handled human rights based Judicial Reviews challenges in the Home Office litigation team . Alongside this, she also acted as a Trade Union representative for PCS, seeking redress for her colleagues. She then moved into private practice and worked at Mishcon de Reya dealing predominantly with corporate Immigration, before joining us in fighting the good fight in June 2017.

Pankhuri A Mehndiratta finished her LLM in Human Rights, Conflict and Justice with a specialism in gender based violence from SOAS in 2016. She is a qualified Advocate from India and a member of the New Delhi Bar Association. After finishing her BA LLB (Hons) from the National University of Juridical Sciences in Kolkata(India), she joined International Bridges to Justice, New Delhi in July 2014 as Program Associate-where she worked pro bono criminal defence representation of indigent individuals in detention in Tihar Jail in Delhi. Liz built an excellent continuing working relationship with many barristers and their clerks as well as experts and other suppliers.

Claudette also worked as a legal secretary in housing, conveyancing and family law matters, and she assisted with wills and probate. Suki qualified as a social worker in the USA. She has worked in different areas of social work, most recently in child protection. Suki also worked with unaccompanied minor asylum seekers before joining Kesar & Co Solicitors.

Annie has extensive office experience within the NHS sector dealing with clinical complaints as legal PA. She also worked for a major oil company based in Scotland covering crew changes and personal injury claims. Annie later switched sides and worked in the insurance industry, dealing mainly with major losses and high value injury cases. Annie is used to legal environment and in her previous job she devised a claims management system to enable monthly bordereaux to be run smoothly for the insurers. For several years Annie lived in Istanbul where she worked as an American/English teacher and speaks fluent Turkish.

Jackie worked for Refugee and Migrant Justice (formerly RLC) as a Casework Assistant for 8 years from 2002 until it closed 2010. Prior to and since working for RMJ, Jackie has worked in administrative roles, within various departments of the NHS and in local authority Children's Centres.

Aimilia has had interest in law since her AS levels during her first year of sixth form. Being bilingual, Aimilia initially wanted to study EU law and Greek, but had to put this plan on hold for a while. Instead, she focused on gaining advanced customer service skills in retail industry before joining Kesar & Co Solicitors. After two years in retail and fashion, Aimilia joined Kesar & Co as a legal secretary apprentice.

Having completed a degree in Accounting and Financial Management Alan found software development more interesting and until 2000 worked mainly on financial software. In 2001 he was asked to look into the Immigration Advisory Service's casework database. As a result Alan has been developing and maintaining casework software for more than 10 years.
