Legal Aid

Access to legal aid has been heavily restricted by the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012. We offer legal aid in the areas of community care, inquests, claims against public authorities,  public and prison law whilst any other may be funded privately or by entering into a Conditional Fee Agreement (CFA) or Damages-Based Agreement (DBA).

The Legal Aid Agency may exceptionally fund cases where funding is normally unavailable if such work is considered to be of interest to the wider public. They will consider such applications individually. All applicants will be means tested and are unlikely to have access to legal aid if they fail to meet the relevant criteria. The criteria for civil matters can be found in the LAA Keycard 49  whilst for crime work you may wish to check Keycard 45A .

Legal Aid is granted on the following grounds:

1. Scope
2. Financial Eligibility
